ASEAN Youth Bites! Highlights SSEAYP

BANGKOK – At the 3rd ASEAN University Student Council Union (AUSCU) Conference in Bangkok, Thailand (13/9), the ASEAN Secretariat launched ASEAN Youth Bytes, a compilation of articles crafted by officials from ASEAN Member States and youth-led organisations affiliated with ASEAN and beyond, showcasing success stories on youth development initiatives in ASEAN and promotes the role of youth in ASEAN Community building efforts.

SSEAYP is featured in this publication, highlighting youth-led initatives through Project 30/50 that commemorates the 30-year anniversary of SSEAYP International and the 50th anniversary of ASEAN. SSEAYP International Indonesia was coordinating the development of this article, with inputs from the eleven SSEAYP alumni associations and SSEAYP International Secretariat.

We also would like to dedicate this publication to the late Wira Respati, former Director of Communication and Information of SSEAYP International Indonesia who has been involved at the initial stage of the development of this publication.

SIAGA Book Presented to the Ambassador of Japan

JAKARTA – At the All Japan Meeting Reception in June, we presented the #SSEAYPSIAGA Stories to the Ambassador of Japan to Indonesia, H.E. Masafumi Ishii. The publication showcased ten social projects by #SSEAYP alumni from Manokwari, Papua to Bengkulu, Sumatra.

Deputy-President Arief Rizky Bakhtiar, Director of Communication and Information Malinda Wiranti, and Director of SSEAYP Project Noviyanto attended the reception on behalf of SSEAYP International Indonesia.

Prof. Julian Aldrin Pasha, former Presidential Spokesperson and the chairperson of the Indonesia-Japan studies association graciously opened the reception which was attended by a number of Japanese communities and Indonesia-Japan friendship association in the country.

SSEAYP June Conference 2019

TOKYO – Dr. Faisal Abdullah, Deputy Minister for Youth Empowerment delivered the opening remarks on behalf of ten ASEAN countries at the Welcome Lunch Reception of #SSEAYP June Conference 2019.

The conference discussed the preparation of SSEAYP this year, including the schedule of onboard and country programs as well as rules and regulations of the NLs, PYs, and OBSCs.

Mr. Raka Pariana, Deputy-Assistant for Youth Capacity Improvement also attended the conference, accompanied by Ms. Pia Adiprima and Mr. Sylvanus Hardiyanto, President and Deputy-President of SSEAYP International Indonesia representing Indonesia’s alumni association.

SSEAYP International Indonesia, Inc. kembali menyelenggarakan seleksi National Leader untuk 46th SSEAYP tahun 2019, menyusul keputusan Kemenpora bahwa National Leader Indonesia tahun ini dipilih dari unsur alumni SSEAYP yang terdaftar sebagai anggota SII Inc.

Launching of SIAGA Book in 31st SIGA Brunei Darussalam

Bandar Seri Begawan – During the 31st SIGA Brunei 2019, we are honoured to launch our publication on SSEAYP Indonesia Alumni Grant Activities (SSEAYP), comprising ten social projects by ten SSEAYP alumni in localising SDGs, ASEAN Youth Development Index, and Indonesia Youth Development Index in various cities in Indonesia.

To this extent, we would like to thank the ten outstanding SSEAYP alumni in organising the projects:

SIAGA – Maritime Leadership Camp | Pangkep

Pangkajene Kepulauan (Pangkep) – With more than 117 islands in the regency, Maritime Leadership Camp served as a leadership training for youth – aiming to provide understanding about maritime issues, to improve youth leadership and to connect the network of youths among islands in Pangkep.

Led by Rahmat Hidayat HM (IPY 2017), the leadership camp was started with interactive discussion from global and Indonesia maritime history to climate change and marine ecosystem. The participants also had an exciting outbound program to learn more about teamwork, leadership, and communications. At the end of this project, the participants brainstormed about youth involvement in marine preservation and agreed to form youth maritime forum to run maritime programs in the future.

SIAGA – Inclusive Space Workshop | Solo

SOLO – To broaden perspectives towards inclusivity and experience on public space in Solo, Risye Dwiyani (IPY 2004) organised Inclusive Space Workshop – aiming to facilitate opportunities for youths from different backgrounds and abilities in order to understand, collaborate, and contribute in enhancing social inclusion awareness.

With diverse backgrounds from architects and urban planners, government officials, academia, university students, entrepreneurs, journalists, NGOs and youth organizations; and including three types of disabilities (vision, hearing, physical), almost 40 participants learned about inclusivity and experienced the public spaces in Solo through discussions, role-playing, lectures and field visits.

As a follow-up, six participants/observers/organizer shared lessons learned from this activity and provide feedback to Solo Government’s Department of Public Works and Spatial Planning to their current and next year’s development plan to ensure that disability-inclusion is mainstreamed.

SIAGA – Belajar Bersama Scrabble (BARBEL) | Bengkulu

BENGKULU – BARBEL (Belajar bersama Scrabble/Learning with Scrabble) was conducted by Randika Dwiputra (IPY 2017) @randiika, aiming to improve students’ ability in practising English through games and fun learning.

The project was organised in two elementary schools, SDN 1 and SDN 67 Bengkulu, resulting the improvement in students’ ability in memorising new English vocabularies.

Application for the 46th Discussion Facilitator is Now Open!

Outline of The Discussion Program and the Post-Program Session of SSEAYP

The Discussion Program intends to encourage the Participating Youths (PYs):

  1. to deepen their understanding of the current situation of the various fields in each country and motivate them to act for solving problems in the respective fields;as well as
  2. to promote mutual understanding;
  3. to improve the PYs’ skills in exchanging views with other participants; and
  4. to enhance their abilities in presenting their own ideas in public, through a free-flowing and active exchange of opinions.

The Post-Program Session aims:

  1. to deepen PYs’ understanding on the Alumni Association (AA) of respective countries and the SSEAYP International which is the solidarity body of the AAs;
  2. allow PYs to design possible projects to realize their ideas for post-program activities.

 

DISCUSSION GROUP THEMES

The Discussion Program shall follow the common theme of “Youth Participation in Social Activities” and will be divided under nine group themes. Each Discussion Group (DG) shall comprise of PYs from different countries.

  1. Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery
  2. Diversity and Social Inclusion
  3. Education
  4. Employment and Decent Work
  5. Environment and Sustainability
  6. Good Health and Well-being
  7. Information and Media
  8. Soft Power and Youth Diplomacy
  9. Youth Entrepreneurship

ROLE OF FACILITATOR

Facilitators should have ample knowledge and experience in the respective group themes and the ability to facilitate discussions.  As such, they are expected to provide the PYs with guidance and advice to carry out the Discussion Program as well as to utilize the results of the Discussion Program to the Post-Program Session.

  1. Determine and propose the group objectives for approval of the Administration.
  2. Draft the basic information and pre-program assignments for approval of the Administration. (Contact the PYs of the group directly for detailed instruction upon approval from the Administration.)
  3. Coordinate and manage the assigned discussion group.
  4. Facilitate the group discussions and give support and advice to the PYs of the group in charge.
  5. Consolidate and summarize DG report made by the PYs of the group and submit it to the Administration.
  6. Coordinate and manage the sessions of “Introductory Program,” “Introduction for post-program projects design and implementation,” “Workshop for post-program projects design and implementation” and “Presentation of Discussion Results”.

 

QUALIFICATION OF FACILITATOR

  1. Good command of English to facilitate discussion (reference level: TOEIC 860, TOEFL(iBT) 100, TOEFL(CBT) 250, IELTS 7.0 , or equal ability).
  2. Basic knowledge and experience in the field of the group theme in charge.
  3. Able to work from October 28 to December 13, 2019 during the country program in Japan, onboard the ship as well as counties to be visited.
  4. Able to attend the Facilitators Meeting held in Tokyo from July 23rd to 26th, 2019 (including arrival and departure dates).
  5. Be sound in mental and body.

 

NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS

SSEAYP Discussion Facilitators from Indonesia will be nominated by SSEAYP International Indonesia (SII), for further interview by the Cabinet Office of Japan. When an applicant nominated by SII is successfully accepted as SSEAYP Discussion Facilitator, the successful applicant(s) need to:

  1. Update the result of Facilitators Meeting in Tokyo to SII, maximum 7 days after the event.
  2. Attend the activities related to Discussion Program during the Pre-Departure Training and Reentry of the Indonesian Delegates for SSEAYP 2019
  3. Assist in the preparation of the Post-Program Activity of the Indonesian delegates for SSEAYP 2019
  4. Actively involved in assisting the social contribution activities of SSEAYP International Indonesia

Application Procedure

  1. Please submit your complete Application FormCurriculum Vitae and your latest reference of English competencevia email at info@sseaypindonesia.org by April 24th, no later than 23.59 Western Indonesia Time.
  2. SSEAYP International Indonesia Inc., forwards the Facilitators recommendation to the Government of Japan.
  3. Final Decision of Discussion Facilitators will be made by the Cabinet Office of Japan.
